Day 11

We got up at 6.30 this morning as we had to catch the early morning ferry from Hyannis to Nantucket, an island 30 miles off the Cape Cod coast.

Hyannis itself is beautiful (the Kennedys used to holiday here) and it is a lovely day, sunshine at last

We docked in Nantucket harbour at approx. 10.40 and it was beyond expectation..............

We spent the morning browsing around the very high end (read expensive!) antique shops and ended at The Whaling Museum

Busy time in the streets of Nantucket!

We left here and had some lunch ($75 for two courses and a coffee!!!!) and waited back at the museum for a guided walking tour of the town visiting the old buildings.  Marsha, our guide, showed us around the cobbled streets and told us some tales of the people and houses, including families with the names of Coffin and Starbuck. We were out with her for over 1.5 hours.......

We then made our way back to the museum to pick up our coats and backpack and took the short walk to the ferry terminal to catch the 16.35 ferry back to Hyannis, taking around an hour to dock back on the mainland.

Tomorrow we leave the luxurious Chatham Bars Inn to make our way to the car ferry for Marthas Vineyard for a few days, the weather forecast being good.
